The Interactive Sound Resource is live!

Posted by | Blog | One Comment

Unfortunately I don’t have a sound of the week to post this week as I’ve been busy getting the ISR ready.

What is the ISR you say? Well check it out here! www.interactivesoundresource.com

The Interactive Sound Resource contains a host of knowledge for Sound Designers and Audio Engineers who work within the games industry. It is a place where fellow audiophiles can share links, tips & tricks or anything they feel might benefit others. Since the site is run in an structured and organised way it makes it much easier for visitors to find specific information. This site will always been added to and will never be complete. Feel free to add and edit as you please, since this is a community based project. The main ethic of the ISR is “knowledge learnt is knowledge shared”. Please note, this is not a resource for people starting out in the world of sound (for example you won’t find tutorials on wave editors). This is an easy access resource for people already familiar with audio.

It’s a wiki powered site devoted to game audio. Where if you feel as though you want to share a piece of advice, article, video or anything that might benefit others it’s easy to add and easy to share. This isn’t to replace other peoples blogs (infact it’s a great way to advertise yours by adding articles and links to the site).

Please share and enjoy!

Sound of The Week – Kevlar vest foley

Posted by | Blog, Sound of the Week | 2 Comments

This weeks sound is something that is generally quite hard to come by. A bullet proof kevlar vest. The audio is recorded at 96khz/32bit so it’s a nice hi res file using a Rode NT3. Once again, this is all entirely free, no royalties/credits/small print. Just use however you want within your projects be them professional or personal. You can download the sound here – http://www.samueljustice.net/downloads/2011/05/FOL_STABVEST_KEVLAR_ARMOUR_ZIP_VELCRO_DROP_CLOTHING.wav.

There are markers in the sound file, they correspond to different movements -

  • 1 – Inside Velcro
  • 2 – Main Zip
  • 3 – Pocket
  • 4 – Unzipped Movement
  • 5 – Zipped Movement
  • 6 – Various Drops

A short accompanying video of me recording the sounds (notice the awesome head bobbin’ going on at the end) -
