I really should stop calling these “sound of the week” because I can just about do one per month, let alone weekly. Anyway, on with the show!
I had to get rid of an old glass TV stand, I had a choice of selling it, giving it away or smashing it. Well you can guess which one I chose. The glass itself was very thick, about .75 of a CM, and took a good few hits to smash!
In the end I had two files, one file containing the two takes of the smash, and another file of the impacts of the hammer against the glass but not smashing. These were pretty beefy so I thought it’d be great to share these as well.
I decided to video the whole thing as well, it’s always fun to slow these things down.
I am no longer hosting my sounds on my site. I am now using Freesound.org instead. Freesound is a great community of recordists sharing source material for others to use. I have turned to it many a time, and should not be overlooked by sound designers, unless you have an elitist attitude. The quality of a lot of the recordings on the site are great, I have used them many a time as layers within my work. The download is the same as always – a 96khz/24bit wav file for use in any work, with no strings attached, being it professional or amateur work.
