6 Months in Sweden + Battlefield 4 Reveal + Bafta Nomination!

Posted by | Blog | One Comment
My blog seems to have gone the way of the do-do recently, little activity and no posts. This is down to the fact I have been extremely busy working on my latest project which at last I can unveil properly!

Battlefield 4!

So I have been with DICE for over 6 months now, living in Stockholm for the same period of time. I joined the incredibly talented inhouse audio team last year and since then have been plugging away with them to create the soundscape for the latest game in the franchise. It’s been a fantastic period, although Scandinavian winters certainly require a lot of adjusting to! I have been pushed creatively and technically to lengths I’d never expected and have learnt so much.

This week at GDC the game was finally unveiled and a video of one of the single player missions was released to the public for everyone to see! The whole team (including myself) worked incredibly hard on this level to bring it upto the quality that it is. I hope you enjoy it! You can watch it below…

I hope the above video has given you an appetite for the rest of the game! I will hopefully be posting more frequently about the work and life in Sweden and at DICE.

We got nominated for WHAT?!

Lastly, Dear Esther was recently nominated (unfortunately didn’t win :( ) for a BAFTA in the category of audio achievement. I was absolutely gob smacked when I found out, and it has been incredible to see how the project has been so well accepted even over a year after it was released. Even though my contribution to the project was not very large, it is still an incredible feeling to have been a part of Dear Esther. I still to this day cannot believe it! TheChineseRoom’s second title, Amnesia a Machine for Pigs (of which I lead the sound design for) will hopefully get some release information in the coming weeks/month. It was a dream project, not only working in horror, but a sequel to what is considered the scariest game ever made. Once it releases, I will hopefully find the time to delve into thoughts and processes that went behind designing the soundscape for the title. For now, enjoy this obscure teaser image that gives you a glimpse into the mad world that we have created for the game. The games official website can be visited at aamfp.com.

So I’ve been in Stockholm almost 1/4 of a year! Wow time has flown by!

There has been some crazy blizzards out here lately, and the snowfall has been insane. I’ve recorded some nice sounds this month so I’ll put one up below for download. But for now.. BLIZZARD!!

Sound of the Week!

Usual stuff – use how you want, when you want, no strings attached. 96/24 file recorded using a H4N. 12 minutes of evening ambience of Stockholm city covered in snow from the window of my apartment on the top floor (5 stories high).

Sound of the.. well not week! – Stockholm Vasa Cafe Ambience

I cannot call this feature sound of the week anymore as the last one was way too long ago.
Anyway, this “weeks” is a recording I made from Stockholm’s Vasa museums cafe. The Vasa museum houses a huge sunken Swedish warship that went under in 1628. The museum is pretty cool and I took along a small H4N to grab some ambiences.

It was recorded in 96/24. Download using the soundcloud widget and use however you want, professional or personal projects. Don’t worry about crediting as usual!
